You send it hates me and won't let me download.

You couldn't possibly get it up on your site anytime soon, could you? (pleeeeeeease, pretty please, the small version). I really wanna see it.

Just sent you an email.

Ohhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh.

As always, you are awesome. This vid is spectacular. I particularly like the final shot you've used. You know the one.

I was a little worried how you were going to go with "Straight To You" for a Firefly vid, but I shouldn't have been. I should know better by now. You nailed it, of course you nailed it.

I shall go cry now.
bradcpubradcpu on March 15th, 2006 07:43 pm (UTC)
Cool, you liked it. (Crying is good, right?)

As usual, the final shot was my first idea. I had lots more ideas for different visual themes (more about Wash and the Out Of Gas Button and a few other things) but I just couldn't fit them into the flow.

All my life I've excelled at making people sad.

And from now i'll call you...Darth Brad, cause you are making everybody cry :))
It's just great as usual (took time to download cause YSI seems to hate me too)
I'm sory i can't give large review - i can say that i liked color palette at the beginning (the purple was nice and it gave a connection with the funeral scene) and the moment between about 1:03 to 1:24
Honestly, i liked the previous couple of vids more, but i'm just having problems with the song. That's totally my problem and has nothing to do with your vidding brilliance :))
Really, new program is giving your great opportunities - i really adore how you useeffects and external motion, and how you make your vid belong to the song, it's just seems like an original video!
You're truly talented and i'm not lying
Sooo...you're taking requests, huh? :))
bradcpu: inuyashabradcpu on March 18th, 2006 12:46 am (UTC)
I'm not taking any more requests, and you hit on the reason: I don't always like other people's music choices or the characters they want me to do. They are inspired by it, not me. I didn't like this music, and I didn't want to do a Zoe/Wash vid of any kind. But I had agreed to do it, so I did it. It took forever to come up with the concept, and then I worked SOOOOOOOO hard on it. This was much harder work than any vid I've done, and I'm very proud of how it came out. I think I did it as well as I possibly could.

...

Requests make my soul hurt.

I gotta say, the music was not doing it for me. I enjoyed the purple-y colors in the beginning, they made me feel all warm and fuzzy.

Concept was great, and I loved the shorter flashes of Wash toward the end. The new program looks like it can over you some fantastic options. I love the overlays you did.

One thing I didn't love were the slow motion bits. I don't know, they felt... catchy. The were unsmooth.

Overall, wonderful work.

I gotta say, the music was not doing it for me.

That's been pretty much unanimous. I haven't met anyone who *does* like it except my wife. I didn't like it. Tried to draw out as much of the charm of the song as I could... This video was so incredibly challenging in so many ways. It's wearying to even think about it. Makes me want to go sleep for three days. Never, ever again will I do another request after I finish yours.

One thing I didn't love were the slow motion bits. I don't know, they felt... catchy.

One of the many technical issues with the new program. Hoping to work that out soon.

You know I think you did find some of the charm. I particularly liked the "Chariots of angels are colliding" (at least I think that's the line) with the alliance and the reavers fighting.

The concept of them both as angels kinda tugged at me a little.
bradcpu: malbradcpu on March 18th, 2006 04:34 am (UTC)
Chariots of angels was the easiest line to tie to a visual. But "the swallows have sharpened their beaks"?? That took a while. Most of the lines were head-scratchers like that.

This experience really taught me why it's better for me to choose my own music. Every single second of the song has to be right. People hear one or two lines and think "oh this would be perfect for so-and-so," but they don't think about every second of it. Plus when the song sucks and I do a vid to it, I feel like people think I'm advocating that song - even though I never liked it to begin with.

Just disgusted by the whole process of this vid. Maybe I will take some time off from vidding now.
I'm sorry. That was mean.: Angel - I Lurkcheshire_monkey on April 10th, 2006 03:06 am (UTC)
I don't think I ever commented on this vid before (even though I shamelessly downloaded it immediately). I stumbled across it recently as I was saving fanvids to a disk and re-watched it. After seeing it again, I felt like I really should give you feedback.

I'm not particularly good at commenting on vids (having never made one myself), but I have to say it - I loved this. Seriously. I didn't know the song before and I rarely ever watched any Zoe/Wash videos, but I was so completely moved. While I was able to restrain the tears, there was such an emotional undercurrent to this vid that each shot made me appreciate it even more. Integrated all of the footage of Serenity along with the couple was brilliant.

I read the comments from others, but I think the song worked beautifully. I'm so very glad your wife requested it because I don't think I'll ever see another Wash/Zoe vid that captures them more (their love, their emotional bond, their affection, etc.). I felt a little intrusive as it is clear you have similar affection for your wife, but from beginning to end, this was truly spectacular. I know you are taking a break from vids for the moment, but I really felt I should tell you. So, thank you for sharing this.
bradcpubradcpu on April 10th, 2006 04:36 am (UTC)
It's tough to explain how much your comments mean. I really do pour myself into every vid in an unhealthy way, and that was never the case more than with Straight to You. I felt like the concept was solid, but I doubted whether I could get the emotion across with new software (which I learned how to use during the vid). I'd spend six or seven hours on one effects-heavy three-sec shot and then delete it because it didn't capture the emotion in the right way. This was by far the most work I've ever put into vid, and I had no idea whether it would have any impact on the viewer at all.

Long story short (too late) what you said here really means the world to me. It makes all of the work so much easier. I'm sure my wife will appreciate your comments about the song as well.

I took a step back from vidding for a few weeks, but now I'm in the stretch run (final week) of working on a brand new vid. There's still a good bit to be done, but I can tell the end is nigh because it won't let me sleep. When a vid haunts me to the point that I can't sleep, it's less than a week away from being finished. In other words, I'm really having fun with it now.

Thanks again, and don't lurk so much!
