Notes

I wanted to keep up my vidding momentum from the past few months, and I chose this subject because it's something I felt would be different and yet it's something about which I have... feelings. Hopefully that's obvious.

I grew up watching the Cubs on cable in the South and being mocked by my friends who were mostly Braves fans. I always tried to explain them why I was a fan of a team that hasn't won in over 100 years and failed miserably, so this is my latest attempt. Short version: There's a lot more to it than wins and losses.

The footage came from a box set I had on hand of some of their memorable games (it's worth noting that every other team had a box set of "greatest World Series games" but that wasn't really an option with the Cubs.) I also used some source from a documentary called "The Heart and Soul of Chicago" as well as some footage I shot myself at a game in 2008.

Lyrics:

If I could save time in a bottle
The first thing that I'd like to do
Is to save every day
Till Eternity passes away
Just to spend them with you

If I could make days last forever
If words could make wishes come true
I'd save every day like a treasure and then,
Again, I would spend them with you

But there never seems to be enough time
To do the things you want to do
Once you find them
I've looked around enough to know
That you're the one I want to go
Through time with

If I had a box just for wishes
And dreams that had never come true
The box would be empty
Except for the memory
Of how they were answered by you

But there never seems to be enough time
To do the things you want to do
Once you find them
I've looked around enough to know
That you're the one I want to go
Through time with

Thanks for watching.

Brad, this is beautiful! There's something special about vidding things that are this close to your heart, and your love shines through it.

I tried to take a lesson from you about vidding subjects close to your heart. :) Really glad you liked this.

Cubbies!

I come from a long line of Cubs fans. I think I would be excommunicated from my family if I didn't wave the flag. I love this so much; it clearly explains what we're in it for, and it does it with such heart and a delicate touch.

I can't wait to share this with my dad.

Really? That's wonderful, as are your comments about how the vid came across to you. I can't wait to share the vid with my son. :)

It's always been really tough for me to explain Cubs love in words.

Awww! This didn't just have feels, this *gave* me feels about Cubs feels. Layers of feels! The song really worked, the shots of the statue and the stadium, how you showed some really strong emotional arcs, really cool to watch.
bradcpubradcpu on August 26th, 2012 11:06 pm (UTC)
Oh, thank you so much! And thanks so much for the encouragement while I was working on it! It's wonderful to know that the emotional arc worked so well for you. That process of communication is really what vidding's all about, at least to me, so it means so much to read that.

Aww, lovely! Baseball ♥ Even if the Cubs aren't my team. ;)

Ha, Giants, I'm guessing? :) I'm glad you felt the love anyway.

I love this video. It is very hard for us cubs fans to explain why we are fans to those who don't see it but this video expresses it very well. I should show it to my hubby(SOX fan) maybe he will understand. Won't stop him from making fun of me for it though but maybe he will understand....
bradcpubradcpu on August 27th, 2012 02:48 am (UTC)
Good luck with your hubby. It's always nice when you can communicate something like that with someone you care about. And thanks very much about the video.

I am not going to confirm or deny reports that I cried through most of this vid
Then I won't deny that I cried while editing it, which is an interesting experience.

that clip where Kerry Wood hugs his son after making his last MLB out? I cried the first time I saw that and your vid made me feel that feeling again
:) I felt like he was hugging the kid inside all of us.

Thank you so much for sharing your feelings here. It reminds me again that we as fans really are a family.

Sure, if you think it would be appropriate and they'd enjoy it! I'm just happy you liked it.

This is such a gorgeous vid. I know nothing about baseball, and before this vid I'd only heard of the Cubs as a punchline, and this gave me SO MANY FEELINGS about them. Awww, CUBS is basically what I will think of them from now on.

That's such a flattering feeling as a vidder and such a cathartic feeling as a fan. Thank you so much, both for watching in the first place and for describing its effect in such a lovely way.

::wipes away tears::

Dammit! You made me cry!

You know I'm a life long Cubs fan, bleed Cubbie Blue, etc. and you just touched my heart in soooooo many ways with this vid. It's fuckin' beautiful, man.
bradcpubradcpu on August 29th, 2012 02:42 pm (UTC)
:) I made me cry too. It's the Cubs' fault, dammit.

It means so much more when we're able to share a feeling like this, and I do think it's universal among us. It's a lot like fandom in that way.

Now stop making me all emo.

Oh, man, this is so fantastic! I love how baseball connects us with our history, and yes, that is absolutely what baseball fandom is all about, so much more than wins or losses--it's having gone through it TOGETHER. So lovely.

I love your icon! <3

That's such a lovely way of putting it. The things that are really worth celebrating are the memories and the shared experiences.

Thank you so much for the kind words about the vid.
