God, this show. This fandom! How is either one real?? It's so amazing in so many ways - all of the pretty and the fun and the slow motion Epicness, and all of the fans squeeing themselves into oblivion. I'm kicking myself for not getting into it sooner.

I started watching Seeker in season 2, not long after Cara showed up. I loved all of the crack to bits, but what really hooked me on the show was Cara's slow process of rediscovering her own humanity, largely through Kahlan. This vid's about that journey through the first half of S2, and the down side of Cara opening herself up to emotions again.

The relationship feels like a romantic one to me, at least in a certain way. I'm not trying to go AU with the vid, just trying to present Cara and her canon ship with Kahlan exactly as I see it in the show. More specifically, I'm trying to show how I think Cara has come to see herself (and how she's come to see Kahlan), in a way that Cara would never admit.

I think it's funny that I had to avoid using some of the most memorable C/K scenes because they don't really fit in a vid like this. It was bizarre to spend so much time trying to tone down the sex metaphors. I mean, Cara fights using a magic phallus, and Kahlan turns people into mindless love slaves by touching them and staring into their eyes. This show!

Thanks to milly for the gorgeous banner, to obsessive24 for pointing me toward the song, and to my entire friends list for enduring my squeesplosion over this show. For those of you who haven't seen the show, hopefully the vid will give you some idea of what I've been so excited about.

Random thing: The night I finished and uploaded the vid there was a massive electrical storm here, and it hasn't stopped raining in the three days since.

Even more random thing: I'm way too amused by the fact that Legend of the Seeker + Sneaker Pimps = Legend of the Sneaker (spoilers). Did I mention the part where this fandom is insane?

"Lightning Field" by Sneaker Pimps

Strike me down, give me everything you've got
Strike me down, I'll be everything I'm not
Count the questions on one hand
You don't ask me what I've planned
Strike me down, should have asked me what went wrong
Strike me down, should have stayed away too long

Should have stayed away too long

Strike me down, give it everything you've got
Chance me now, I'll be everything I'm not
Hope's the child of what luck brings
Points to faith in higher things
Ask me now, fire at everything at once
Strike me down, take it any way you want

Take it any way you want

Strike me down, should have left it all unknown
Strike me down, should have held it all alone
Wash the questions off my hands
I'm the fate in no one's plans
Strike me down, give it everything you've got
Strike me down, I'll be everything I'm not

I'll be everything I'm not

Hope you enjoy the vid. Please share your thoughts.

YAY! You weren't disappointed! This fandom and these characters are so incredible that I almost feel like it's too sacred to vid, you know? And then with all the expectations... So, yeah, relieved.

I got completely choked up by how much of an unspoken voice you gave to Cara's emotions. I mean, it felt like longing.
I love the way you say it. I need to get you to write my vid descriptions.

But yeah, Cara's emotions do have such a huge presence in their unspoken-ness in the show. That's a big part of why I love the character so much. Those little cracks where you can see how much is boiling under the surface... it's just so powerful.

I do think Cara has fallen into a really painful kind of love with Kahlan, as she starts to open herself up to human emotions again and starts to see life in a different way, and ... yeah, it's painful. Awesomely painful.

So glad you liked it deej! Not sure if I mentioned that part.

Ahaa, yeah sorry about heaping all that expectation on you, but man, we were all just so excited to see what you'd do with these two and you just killed it. I'm telling you, that first chorus section made my eyes sting. This song! It's haunting me, no lie.

On the money there. My god, it's like this epic journey from loathing to grudging respect to almost adoration. But I love what you did here by contrasting the care-free moments of Cara's childhood with her time as a Mord'Sith and then tying Kahlan into her learning curve, trying to find emotion again. Hands on shoulders! Eep! And I love how it's almost like Cara's experiencing the realization that Kahlan is the one person she can't have, with all the scenes of Kahlan kissing Richard and Cara noticing and being all pained by her new feelings. Eeeee! Ok I'm going to shut up now.

But JSYK, I live for vids like this that turn me into an emotional mess for days. Brb pimping this everywhere.

You can totes blame obsessive24 for the song. I told her the type of song I needed, in the most general, lame terms, and she immediately fired back with this. First time I heard it I was like "OMG! This is gonna be great!" I could see practically the whole thing in my head right away.

And I love how it's almost like Cara's experiencing the realization that Kahlan is the one person she can't have, with all the scenes of Kahlan kissing Richard and Cara noticing and being all pained by her new feelings
I seriously considered making the vid summary "Emotions are hard!" LOL. OK, maybe not really. But it would have been funnier.

Really just over the moon about your reaction, deej. :) Thanks again. Now the expectations are *really* high for the next one, eh?

I can't help it. I'm back. THIS VID IS DESTROYING ME in the best way of all.

The more I watch it the more I love it. The connection the editing has to the song is palpable without being in. your. face on. beat. Like at 0:42 when you slowed the footage and it matches the bass synth—unfff.

Oh and I can't believe I never mentioned it before but the timing of the clip use at 1:03 is so powerful. Chills.

At 2:22, in that second Cara looks up. WHOA. It's almost like she made a covenant with herself to prevent anything happening to Kahlan then BAM amazing slowmo pushing Kahlan out of the way footage. When her eyes look up there it's like a punch in the gut.

And basically 3:42 onwards. I cannot get over how burning sexy the time remapping is, especially with R/K on the forest floor and those amazing blue clouds rolling across the sky.

Sorry to wax on, I just cannot get over how much this vid has given me ~feelings~ like Cara.

LOL, you are just too good to me. Destroying you is SO MUCH FUN!

I have trouble doing on-beatness. It bothers me, I dunno. I'm sure it keeps some people from liking my vids as much as they might, but I gotta be me, you know? I just like a more organic feel... and I mean, there's more going on in music than just a beat.

Thanks about 1:03! Was trying to tie together the "not wanted anywhere" feeling but also make it, you know, look cool. ;)

Awesome! I'm so glad it came across that way. I mean, up to that point it was weeks and weeks of Kahlan going "It's OK to feel and be emotional and care about people" and... I kind of felt like Cara was already starting to do that.

I wanted to get a sense of everything kind of lurching forward and overwhelming Cara at the end, and the time toggle was just an avenue for that, but I like that it "felt" so good musically. :)

Funny little bit of trivia here: You pointed me toward those storm clouds. In your 2x10 recap you had a huge screencap of them and said "Ominous clouds are beautifully ominous". That was *right before* Cara/Leo sex, which I saw as her finally giving in to feelings (setting up the hurt soon after). So the clouds looked even more ominous to me in retrospect.

I'm rambling. What I meant to say was, Thanks!
